English!

English is a subject that all has by so many years, since kindergarten I think, and it is different than other subjects because always is here and in the university is not different. In our university in the begin of the year monitors take write a test, this give you a result of what is your English level, divided in four levels (the four is the best), if you get this you can decide if you want take the course of the four level or an interview in the tower 15 and you are ready. I was in the level 3 and the last semester I was in the course and this semester I am coursing English 4.

The blogs began the last semester and until that time I never has do one. I think is a different experience, there you can write based in your own experiences, is not traditional, and for the student it is important and more fun than classes. This semester we keep doing blogs and this is my last one.

Actually I’m using English for the English class and sometimes in occasions related with the career like scientific papers. In the last case is very important because if you understand a word with a different meaning can change everything, and this means a bad grade L. Related to this I think I need to learn more words associated with the dental and scientific world, although some more specific words are very similar in Spanish and English.

I don’t know if I will keep practicing my English, maybe learn more words of papers but speak I think no. Maybe in the future I will want speak better or something like this but for now I’m concentrated in the university.

Our faculty needs changes

Before apply to this university I've seen a lot of curriculums of different universities and the better for me was this I thought everything was going to be a really good experience because I liked the subjects and is a very prestigious university too, but... At these moments I was just an innocent girl :(

Now has passed one year and I can understand, every organization has problems and this faculty has some (or more than some).

The first thing I noticed was the disorganization of the UTES, one teacher say one thing or resolve a problem in a way that other teacher says is incorrect, some days we don't have classes but they don't remember inform this to us (a little detail :/ ), they upload important information ten minutes before test and a lot of more known stories . Another faulty is the excessive academic charge and the impossibility to do semiannual subjects, because if you don't approve one you "lose" all the year. This make you stress excessively and the combination with the almost inexistent consideration of the teachers with us, arguing about at his times was worse, is even worse. An interview what was realized by partners some years ago gave the results we have average one hour a week for social life, really sad number.

Although we have one of the most expensive tariffs (what we can't see reflect at least in our laboratories without air conditioner and enough materials) despite this,  we have to buy our owns materials for the practice and search our own patients ( not yet but I've eared is horrible because is not your fault if the patient don't go and in mayor part of the time you have to pay for the patient too).

As we can see our faculty has a lot of problems to resolve, but has good things too. I'm sure that is the best for me anyway.

A fantastic band

Hello! Today we have to talk about our favorite band o musician. I have to confess is a difficult decision for me because I like a lot of music styles, singers or bands and I’m not a fan of any 100%.

Seeing my playlist, I decide a big one and very famous band: Queen. Make this decision based in his big trajectory, undoubted success with so many hits, incredible arrangements (musical and vocal) and above all because of what I feel when I listen to them, I want sing, dance or jump, can maybe sounds weird but is like an injection of energy, and at this times is very good because I need it.

I will talk a little bit of the history, characteristics and awards of the band. Are classified like a rock band. Was founded in London in 1970, their classic line-up was Freddie Mercury (lead vocals, piano), Brian May (lead guitar, vocals), Roger Taylor (drums, vocals), and John Deacon (bass guitar), (Roger and Brian are still in the group). The band have released a total of 18 number-one albums, 18 number-one singles. Estimates of their record sales generally range from 150 million to 300 million records, making them one of the world's best-selling music artists. Their performance at the 1985 Live Aid concert has been ranked among the greatest in rock history by various music publications. Mercury died of bronchopneumonia, a complication of AIDS, and Deacon retired in 1997. Since then, May and Taylor have occasionally performed together plus Paul Rodgers or Adam Lambert, but for me is not the same as with Freddie.

Without a doubt, they will be one of the best bands for many years more.

Summer vacations

Summer is my favorite season, I love the weather in the south, the fruits and the most important: The vacations. Just think about it makes me feel relax and comfortable, has free time to sleep more than 8 hours per day, read what I want and see a lot of movies and series, go to the beach and spend free time with the family is the best.

Today I will talk about what I pretend do in my next summer vacations (there are only 37 days left!!). First of all, I will go to my house in Loncoche, is my first year out of home and I really want stay there for a time and just get relaxed. There I will maybe get a temporal job to has my own money but this just for 1 or 2 weeks because in February my parents have vacations then we will go some days to the lake in Caburgua, we’ve been there before and is a really good place to connect with the nature and relax. There you can swim, sail in kayaks or similar, eat outdoors, do bonfire and things like that.

 They also plan spend another week in Argentina and visit some family and friends, I will go too. We will do a car trip, pass by a customs close to Curarrehue and there travel by some cities.

I’m waiting anxious my summer vacations! 

SDLE

SDLE  is the acronym of the legendary  “ semana de la escuela”, when the prestigious school of dentistry of the university of Chile meets every year since its foundation in 1911. But the activities that happen during the week are not what's supposed to happend in an at least decent school .Now I have to give you some tips on how to survive in the week of the school, or at least I will try.

1.       Don’t get impressed, its a very different  activity as opposed what normally the school has. There you can see everything. from lots of alcohol that don't need to be  hidden, to teachers reading erotic  stories.2.       Get prepared to meet new people,  even more if you are mechón.  After you will remember some faces and I can assure many will not be of good memories (but always fun memories).3.       You must be ready for everything. If you are of these persons who gives his heart for the competitions, get ready. Through the days they ask for some surprise competitions almost all related to alcohol.4.       In the day of the trip prepare your liver and dignity. A lot of people write his name, patent bus and a number of a friend in his arm with a permanent marker because probably they will stay too drunk to stand up.5.       Tell your parents or the persons who you live the situation, they have to be patient and if is possible  put a bucket near your bed.

Maybe it sounds wear but is a really good experience, you have a lot of fun. If you are part of the university and the career you have to live it.

Postgraduate

Like I said in my last post I think we have a lot of time yet to decide what to do in the future. I said too I am a little confused about the specialization but in this post I will tell you some options and what I like about this postgraduate studies.

I think my first option is pediatric dentist; job with kids can be very funny, but sometimes difficult, some children are afraid to go to the dentist and they want punch your face or just cry. I think Psychology in this area is very important and I don’t really know if I have the adequate connection with kids

Another option is oral rehabilitation, there you can do a lot of different things and you aren’t only in a very specific area. But the most beautiful of this specialization is you can totally change the smile of a patient, even if this has a very bad oral health.

Legal dentistry is interesting too but not very popular (I’ve never eared about it before the university), I think because it is a new program of postgraduate and not all the universities give it. However is a different way to be a dentist.  I think you have to be part of an institution too but I don’t have it clear.

My future job

I’m studying dentistry and I really hope to be a dentist (This may sound silly but a teacher says in the beginning of the year what his partner ended being acrobat in the águilas humanas) haha. Sometimes I see it so far but at least this year had passed very quickly (this weekend will be November), I hope the other  years can be like this this year but easier and more relaxed ( but I think is a kind impossible).

I imagine myself first in some away public hospital (like general de zona), I would like to help people who really need my help and maybe don’t have the access to a dentist. Maybe the next years I will go help in volunteer programs of the faculty, I really like participating  in things like that but I’ve never been in one related to dentistry, it can be a good experience because some partners have told me about it a little bit.

The next step is the specialization and there I have a big confusion (I have some years to think about it, is not a concern for me now) because we have a lot of options to choose, I like children and how cute they are and also pass time with people with special needs and for this sometimes I think in pediatric dentist but I don’t have a real experience in a clinic, interventions are not the same (In my opinion). I think in clinic you can decide what you really like, for now we only know a part of it (more theoretical).

In some years we will see our real future job.
